Horace “Skin” Ranton was born September 20, 1942 in Opelousas, LA to Morris and Beatrice Tyler Ranton. Horace was baptized at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at an early age. He went to school in the St. Landry Parish School system. Horace left Opelousas and moved to River Ridge, LA in 1963. In 1965, he married Virgie Zachary and to this union six children were born. Horace loved fishing and working on cars. He worked most of his life as a roofer, spending the majority of his working life at the Ellis Roofing Company. He was not a perfect man but he tried to live a life pleasing to God. Horace leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 yrs., Virgie; sons Kenneth(Dricella) of Reserve, LA, Kevin(Shakita) of Fort Worth, TX, Derrick(Denise) of Garyville, LA and daughter Yolanda(Reginald) of River Ridge, LA; fourteen grandchildren, one sister, Rose Marie Smith(Raymond); two sisters in law, Hazel and Merdine Zachary and one brother in law Herman Zachary. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Beatrice Ranton, four sisters, Josie Ranton, Mary Alice Holmes, Georgiana Lewis, Emma Pitre and one brother William Ranton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 for 10:00am from Sweet Home Christian Center, 434 Jackson St., Kenner, LA 70062. Pastor Mitchell Wilson, officiating. Entombment, Providence Memorial Park, Kenner, LA. Visitation from 9:00 until service time. Treasures of Life Funeral Services entrusted with his final care.
