Obituary for Edna Jean Sylvain

Born on November 1, 1948 Edna Jean was the daughter of the late Evelyn Lumar and the late Ernest Scott, sister of Lorita and Jake (Sharon) Lumar, Dwight Scott, Lee and Jerry Bornes, Elsie S. Dunn and the late Lennie Rangle.

Edna Jean was a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, after graduation she went on to teach in the St. John the Baptist School System until her retirement in 2005.

She married the love of her life, Joseph Michael Sylvain, Sr., and the two became parents to their only daughter, Aleshia, and two sons Joseph Michael, Jr. and Tristan, Sr. She later became the proud grandmother of twin boys Chase and Chance and then to the youngest grandson, Tristan Jr. She was also very fond of her nieces Erica, Renata, Jovan and Tamera. Aleshia and Erica spent so much time together they were more like sisters than cousins. She extended that love to her great nieces and nephews.

Jean was known for her elaborate food dishes and loved to show off her unique creations. She would always show up fashionable late to events because she spent extra time getting the gravy just right, or sprinkling green stuff on the rice dishes for the perfect presentation, or adding something to the dish to make it taste and look different from everyone else’s. Another reason Jean show up late to events is because she took pride in looking and smelling great so it took her forever to get ready, and wherever she had to go or whatever it was she had to do…it was always with her husband by her side. If the car left the driveway, Michael was driving and Jean was right next to him in the passenger seat, making noise, and we all know she could make some noise, but nonetheless always in that front seat.

As the years went on, Edna Jean’s health began to fail and she became weak but remained at home with her husband and daughter caring for her until her last few weeks which she spent at University Hospital until she was called to her heavenly home on Monday, November 19, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her mother Evelyn, father Ernest, grandparents, sister Lennie and aunts, uncles and cousins.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10:00 am from the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church 2349 La 18 Edgard, La. Father Robustino Morgia Celebrant.
