Alfred “BB” Green, a New Orleans native and resident of Des Allemands, Louisiana, peacefully entered eternal rest on October 3, 2018 at the age of 90.
He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Grambling College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, and was a member of the basketball and track teams. He earned a Master of Arts in Education from Louisiana State University-New Orleans and continued his post-graduate studies at Tulane and Loyola Universities, where he earned 30+ hours. Alfred was an active member of Canaan Baptist Church of Killona, Louisiana, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent; a retired school teacher for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and St. Charles and St. Tammany Parish school systems; former Assistant Principal, Principal, School Board Member and School Board President of St. Charles Parish Schools; former co-owner of Katie’s Early Childhood Development Center in Hahnville, Louisiana; member of Don Raymond Education and Athletic Memorial (DREAM) organization, St. Charles Parish Retired Teachers Association, and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association; coach, mentor, and family man who exemplified and taught Christian values until his earthly departure.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Green, Sr., Albertine Borne Green, and step-mother Albertha Gross Green; siblings Orelia Green Johnson and Albert Green, Jr., first wife Katie Johnson Green, daughter Zina Green, brother-in-law Jeff Johnson, sister-in-law Delia B. Green, and son-in-law Joseph Lewis, Jr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of the last 12 years, Barbara Scott Green, aunt Rose “Mom” Alexander, daughters Brondwyn Green Lewis and Karen Green Parquet (Kenneth), step-daughter Valerie Bocage Bradley (Brian), step-son Sharonne Scott, Sr. (Andrea), brothers-in-law Rudolph Williams (Doris) and Stafford Williams, sisters-in-law Ruby Johnson, Alma Johnson, and Maxine Hankerson (Harold), four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren, devoted cousin Herman “Pepper” Bossier, god-daughters Wilhelmenia Simmons and Cierra Puryear, god-son Kyle Mosley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Family, friends, and employees of St. Charles Parish Public Schools, St. Charles Parish Hospital, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Shell Norco Manufacturing Complex, Scott Construction, Canaan Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Celebration Church, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend funeral services being held at Jerusalem Shriner’s Temple located at 1940 Ormond Boulevard in Destrehan, Louisiana, on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 11:00a.m. Rev. Henry Wolf, Jr. Officiant. Visitation will be held from 9:00a.m.-11:00a.m. Interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Taft, Louisiana will follow funeral services.
