Our beloved, Hamilton (affectionately known as Hamo) quietly slipped away from us and departed his earthly home on Saturday December 1, 2018 at Chateau St. James Rehab and Retirement Center, at the age of 79. The love of Jesus gently delivered him from all sickness and took him home where there shall be no more pain or suffering.
Hamilton was born October 17, 1939, to the late Jentry Dumas, Sr. and Fabiola Dumas. He was a native of Vacherie, and a lifetime resident of Edgard, LA. He was the husband of Verna Smith Dumas. From this union came two children – Monique and Aaron Dumas.
During his life time, Hamilton worked at Northrop Grumman Corporation formerly known as Avondale Ship Yard as a painter, for 40+ years. During his employment he met employees that soon became lifelong friends.
He also had a love and a passion for music. At the early age of 11, he mastered the art of guitar playing. He played with “The Rockettes” band for many years. They soon became well known for the band that brings a never ending party. Hamilton “Guitar Slim” truly loved putting a smile on everyone’s face.
His memories will be kept in the heart of his wife, Verna Dumas, two children –Monique Dumas and Aaron Dumas; siblings - Glenda Dumas Weber, and Raymond Dumas. Grandchildren – Martel Mims, Wonzell Dumas, Tyla Edwards, and Tykia Dumas; brothers and sisters in law - Norvan Smith, Sr., Pamela Smith, Alder Weber and Shirley Dumas, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jentry Dumas, Sr. and Fabiola Dumas; sisters - Dolter Keller, and Earline Bailey; brothers Jentry Dumas Jr, Delton Dumas, Morris Dumas and Walton Dumas. Mother and Father in Law - Lionel Smith Sr. and Elrena Percy Smith; brothers in law - Lionel Smith, Jr. and Lynwood Smith.
Parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic church, and all neighboring churches are welcomed to say final goodbyes to Hamilton “Hamo” Dumas on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at a Mass of Christian burial from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2349 Highway 18, Edgard, LA, Father Robustiano Morgia-Celebrant.
