Obituary

Obituary for Vernita Adams (Dorest)

Vernita Dorest Adams valiantly laid down her earthly cross and peacefully secured her eternal crown on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Baylor Scott & White Centennial Hospital in Frisco, Texas, at the age of 80. A steadfast servant, God’s unfailing love overcame her earthly suffering and ushered her into His kingdom with much praise and thanksgiving.

Vernita was born on November 13, 1938, to the late Norvin and Eola Scioneaux Dorest. She was the devoted wife of the late Lawrence Adams. From this union, they were doting parents to Kima Adams-Evans and Tiffany Adams-Roussell.

Vernita was educated in the St. John the Baptist Parish School System and graduated from Second Ward High School in 1958. After graduating from Southern University A & M College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1963, she became an educator for her beloved school system and retired after 33 years of service. During her employment, she made lasting relationships with several co-workers and former students.

Her memories will be embedded in the hearts and minds of her daughters and sons-in law, Kima and Jerry Evans, Tiffany and Alvin Roussell, adopted daughters Angelique Mitchell, Chantell Smith, and Raenell Raphael, son Rodney Mitchell, her loving grandchildren, Braelen, Brehyn, Brandeis Evans, and Evan Roussell. Adopted grandchildren AnJenea, Ariel, and Rodney Mitchell, II, Dylan August, and Payton Hayley; sisters Georgianna Jack and Elousie Fiffie, brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Rebecca Adams, treasured friends Herdle Raphael and Rita Herbert, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Norvin and Eola Scioneaux Dorest; husband Lawrence Adams; sister Juanita Dorest; brother Paul Dorest; father and mother-in-law Coleman and Felma Adams.

The congregation of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, all neighboring churches, St. John the Baptist Parish School System, and St. John Council on Aging are welcomed to the Homegoing Celebration on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Highway Baptist Church, 1185 Magnolia Heights Street, Vacherie, LA 70090 at 11:00 AM. Viewing 9:00 AM until services begin. On Friday, January 18, 2019 a viewing of remains will be held at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 5555 LA Highway 18, Wallace, LA 70090 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. Interment at St. Philip Catholic Church Cemetery, 1175 LA-18, Vacherie, LA 70090. Treasures of Life Funeral Service entrusted with arrangements, 315 E. Airline Hwy, Gramercy, LA 70052.
