Albert "Choupic" Smith, Jr. was born on May 24, 1939 in St. James, Louisiana to Albert Smith, Sr. and Mary Blain. He was the 3rd of twelve children. Albert shared many happy and fond memories with his parents, siblings, and extended family on Pikes Peak.\n\nHe accepted the Lord as his personal savior and was baptized in June of 1974 at St. Luke Baptist Church by the late Reverend Joseph Thomas in the Mighty Mississippi River.\n\nIn 1960 he was united in Holy Matrimony to his devoted wife Yvonne Charles Smith. They were married for 61 wonderful years! To this union 6 children were born; Venaster, Lucretia, Michelle, Albert III, Tevis Sr., and Chad Sr.\n\nHe attended Magnolia High School and later went on to work at Avondale Shipyard, Dow Chemical, and St. James Parish School System. "Choupic" loved the Saints, but had a special place in his heart for his beloved St. James Wildcats. He could be found running touchdowns along the sideline every Friday night!\n\nAlbert's surviving loved ones will miss him dearly. He leaves to cherish his loving memories his devoted wife Yvonne Charles Smith, 3 daughters Venaster Smith-Ray and Michelle S.Smith of New Orleans, LA, Lucretia Smith Howard of Baton Rouge, LA; 2 sons Tevis Paul Sr. (Hyllorri) of St.James, LA and Chad Bradford Sr. (Trenesser) Smith of Richmond, TX; 1 sister Betty Blain Celestine; 2 brothers Sterling (Dianne) Smith and Jerome Batiste; sisters and brothers-in law Cleo Batiste, Brenda Batiste, Donald Thomas, Debra Smith, Ford (Mary) Charles, Jr., Robert (Rita) Charles, Judith (Minister Henry) Jones, Jeanette Nelson, Denise (Reverend Ronald) Gauthreaux, Lester (Tawanna) Charles, and David (Carmel) Charles Sr.; 21 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 4 Godchildren, a devoted friend George Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. \n\nHe was preceded in death by his parents Albert Smith, Sr. and Mary Blain, his son Albert "Snake" Smith, III, and 14 siblings Iola Paul, Ceola Hilliard, Frances Washington, Idell August, Leah Anderson, Norman Smith, Calvin Batiste, Edward Batiste, Ulysses Trudeau, Benjamin Trudeau, Alfred Smith, Raymond Batiste, Jackie Batiste, and Marilyn Thomas; sister in law Eva Lois Melancon, brother in law Raymond Melancon, mother & father in law Luvera & Ford Charles, Sr., and a nephew Jackie Batiste, Jr.\n\nA celebration of life honoring Albert "Choupic" Smith Jr. will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022, at St.Luke Baptist Church, 5030 LA-18, St.James, LA 70086. Visitation 9 am-11 am. Service will begin at 11 am. Interment to follow at St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery in St.James, LA.
