Saint James, Louisiana
There are some lives that leave behind more than memories. They leave behind a testimony.
Alex was born on July 29, 1956, to the late Alex Jones Jr. and Betsy White Jones. He was a native and resident of St. James, Louisiana. He departed this life on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Gonzales Healthcare Center in Gonzales, Louisiana.
Alex was baptized by the late Rev. John Harris at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He faithfully attended Mt. Calvary, where his brother, Rev. Samuel Jones, serves as pastor. Until his health declined, he regularly participated in Hour of Power Monday through Thursday, Sunday worship services, and Saturday prayer services.
He was a proud graduate of St. James High School, Class of 1975. He excelled in carpentry and mathematics, demonstrating a sharp mind and a gift for working with his hands.
Even while residing in the nursing home, Alex continued attending church services and Bible class there, determined not to miss an opportunity to worship and hear God’s Word. Though his strength declined, his faith remained strong. He stayed connected to his church and church family throughout his illness, drawing strength and comfort from the Lord.
Alex was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Margaret Winchester White. Together, they shared a life filled with family, love, and many cherished memories, including the joy of their daughter, Chasity.
Alex’s life was a testimony to God’s faithfulness through every mountain, every valley, every trial, and every season. If Alex could speak to us today, his testimony would simply be: “The Lord kept me.” Even in his last days, he reassured us that God is an on-time God and that everything would be all right.
He found strength and encouragement in songs and words that reminded him of God’s goodness. Through every fiery trial, God proved faithful time after time. The God Alex trusted in the sunshine was still God in the storm. The God who walked with him during his healthy years remained beside him when his health declined. Through it all, the Lord was his Keeper.
Alex leaves to cherish his memory his children, Chasity White Lewis (Troy) of St. James, Louisiana, and KeJon D. Smith (Clarice) of St. Gabriel, Louisiana; his precious grandchildren, Ja’Von M. Harris and Ja’cian T. Lewis; his bonus grandchildren, Joshua Williams, Malik Robertson, and Blessed Robertson, all of whom brought special joy to his life.
He also leaves behind his beloved siblings: Rev. Samuel Jones; Clarence Prestley of St. James, Louisiana; Andre Jones (Shalonda) of Thibodaux, Louisiana; Betsy Octave (Edwin III) of Vacherie, Louisiana; Virginia Richardson, Lenora Watis(Calvin), Betta Jacque, all of Gonzales, Louisiana; Clara Harris (Rev. Herbert) and Alexis Graves, both of St. James, Louisiana.
Alex is also survived by brothers-in-law, Clarence Stewart of Gonzales, Louisiana; Rodney Taylor of LaPlace, Louisiana; Oliver Winchester Jr.; Kenneth Winchester Sr.; sisters-in-law, Diane Winchester, Paula Raheem, and Isabella Johnson. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, cherished friends, and his beloved Mt. Calvary Baptist Church family to treasure his memory.
