Beatrice Veronica "Bea" Williams (Mitchell) Obituary (1936 - 2021)

Beatrice Mitchell Williams, a resident of Gramercy LA, departed this life at 4:20 am on May 27, 2021 at Colonial Living Center in Metairie LA. A retired teacher who taught for over 40 years in the public Schools of St. James Parish, she loved worshipping and praising God, gospel music, sewing, tending to her plants, supporting Southern University football and the New Orleans Saints. The oldest child of Harold "Bennie" Mitchell and Julia Ross Mitchell, she relished her role as the standard bearer for her brothers and sisters--striving to always do that which is moral, right and good. Wife of the late Abraham Williams Jr., the first African American principal at St. James High. Survived by devoted daughter, Candace Michelle Williams; sisters, Melba Batiste, Rubenstein Clark, Marvel and Julia Lee Mitchell and Angela Songy; brothers, Floyd and Rev. Emil Dean Mitchell, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Emily, Brenda, Cynthia and Beatrice Mitchell, Carolyn Gaines, Linda Bailey, Katherine Williams and Gay Pittman; brothers-in-law, Percy Williams, Edward Johnson, Lionel Bailey, Reginald Clark and Malcolm Songy; Godchild, Floyd Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Beatrice is preceded in death by her husband, Abraham Williams, Jr.; parents, Benny and Julia Mitchell; brothers, Harold, Gary, Morris and Herman Mitchell; sisters, Myrtle and Julia Mitchell; in-laws, AbrahamSr. and Vivian Williams, Clarence Gary Williams, Kathleen Johnson, Rev. Ferdinand Gaines, Jr. and Howard Batiste Sr.; nieces, Pasha Gordon and DeAnnJohnson; nephews, Julian Mitchell, Howard Batiste and Tyvon Clark; Godchildren, Neil Clark Jr., Thomas Love, Paul Porter and Harold Poche. Members of New Zion Christian Center and surrounding churches, St. James Retired Teachers' Association, Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston TX are invited to attend the celebration of life services at 11 am on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at New Zion Christian Center, 216 W.
