Cheryl Ann Borne was born at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 14, 1958, to the proud parents of Bernice and Joseph Jumel Borne. She was the eleventh child of sixteen children. Cheryl was baptized at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard, Louisiana which is where she grew up.\n\nCheryl received her high school diploma from Second Ward High School in Edgard. Cheryl attended the University of New Orleans and completed the LPN Program at Emily Griffith Opportunity School in Denver, Colorado. She also received her nursing degree from Bishop State in Mobile, Alabama.\n\nCheryl worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and in HIV Research at Tulane University In New Orleans. The last fourteen years, Chery worked as a school nurse at Kipp Central City Academy in New Orleans.\n\nCheryl was a member of Gentilly Baptist Church. Cheryl was a dedicated servant of God. Her life was a blessing to others through her faith and belief in the Lord.\n\nCheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Jumel and Bernice Pierre Borne, her sisters Eleene Scott, and Loretta Borne, her brothers Paul Borne and Joseph Borne, Jr., and her sister-in-law Arzelia Borne.\n\nCheryl leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter Bemnet Teferi (Yabsira), who was her pride and joy. Cheryl was a loving sister to Sandra Davis, Rachel Borne, Talbert Borne (Sharon), Laverne Gambrell, Bradley Borne (Renette), David Borne, Vanessa Rayford (Kevin), Jacqueline Washington (Brian), Berlyn Scott, Gregory Borne and Randall Borne. She was the niece of Alice Borne, Leon Pierre, and Lois Pierre. Cheryl was the Godmother to Joseph Davis, Jr.\n\nCheryl will be sadly missed by her family, including a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. \n\nCheryl was a devoted friend of Glenda Davis, Joycelyn Clementin, Loretta Rivers, and the Hill family.\n\nRelatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 11:00 am at Gentilly Baptist Church, 5141 Franklin Avenue, New Orleans, LA. Visitation 10:00 am. until the time of service. Dr. Kenneth Taylor, Officiating. Burial will be private.
