Claude Evans, Sr.

–

New Orleans, Louisiana

Claude Evans Sr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 26, 1963, to the late Robert and Beulah Evans. He was the beloved brother of Cynthia, Janice, his twin sister Claudette (late Larry), and his twin brothers Keith (Angie) and Kevin (Vicky). He was preceded in death by his siblings Robert Jr., Paul, Paula, and Michael Jamison. Claude was the devoted father of Claude Jr . and the late Christian LaQuan.

He graduated from George Washington Carver Senior High School and later pursued his passion for cooking. Claude worked offshore as an executive chef, served as the lead cook at the Shimmy Shack, worked as a rock crusher at PMC, and was employed at the United States Post Office as a casual clerk, among other jobs.

Claude loved to cook, and one memorable moment was a friendly gumbo cook-off with his brothers—though he didn’t win that particular round! Outside of the kitchen, he enjoyed DJing in his spare time. Known as the “family DJ,” Claude never showed up to a gathering without his speakers, his CD book, and crates full of music. He always had a party playlist ready to go.

Claude was also a die-hard football fan, especially of the Dallas Cowboys. You couldn’t tell him anything about “his” Cowboys—or Cowgirls, depending on who you asked! Even on Saints Sunday at church, when everyone else wore black and gold, Claude proudly showed up in his Cowboys jersey. He would always joke, “The only thing I’d wear for the Saints is a brown paper bag on my head.”

Claude is survived by his loving wife, Shoun Evans. They met at C.C.F.G.M. Church, where he once asked her what her favorite cake was. When she asked why, he later surprised her with a carrot cake—and the rest was history. They shared a unique and beautiful 26 years of marriage. He is also survived by his stepchildren Clarence, Austin (Que), and Indera, as well as his grandchildren Kayla, Claude III, Cameron, Carmen, C'eavion, Camyia, Brandon, Austin Jr., Aubrey, and Indee. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-laws, and a brother-in-laws.

Claude gave his life to Christ while working offshore. His spiritual walk began at Chief Cornerstone Full Gospel Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Gary Bailey Sr. He served faithfully as Brother Claude, Deacon Claude, Armor Bearer, member of the finance department, Head Elder, and—though he ran from the title—many considered him an Assistant Pastor.

Most recently, under the leadership of Bishop Ronnie A. Crockett at New Orleans Triumph Baptist Church, Claude was welcomed with open arms and appointed as Senior Elder over the ministerial alliance. He assisted with baptisms, communion, and many other responsibilities. This past summer, he joyfully taught the adult class at Vacation Bible School.

Just recently, Claude was preparing Thanksgiving for his family—none of us knowing it would be his last gathering with us. Claude was loved deeply and touched countless lives. He would strike up a conversation with anyone and always end it with, “Are you saved?” He truly was a walking billboard for Christ.

His cooking, his DJing, his service, and his presence will be truly missed.

A Celebration of Claude's Life will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at New Orleans Triumph Church, 840 Fats Domino Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70117; visitation beginning for 9:00am followed by the service for 10:00am. Private burial.
