David Barnes Carter

–

Reserve, Louisiana

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Pastor David Barnes Carter, age 77, entered eternal life on Friday, January 20, 2022, at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner, Louisiana. God stated to Pastor Carter, "Servant of God Well Done!" Pastor Carter was born on February 24, 1945, to the late John B. Carter, Sr. and Mary Johnson Carter in New Orleans, Louisiana. Pastor David B. Carter was a lifelong resident of Reserve, Louisiana and a native of Laplace, Louisiana. He was educated in the St. John the Baptist Parish where he was well known for playing basketball. He graduated with the class of 1964 from Fifth Ward High School located in Reserve, Louisiana. After high school graduation, he attended Southern University in Baton Rouge majoring in Carpentry. As time progressed, Pastor Carter was truly blessed to join in holy matrimony to his wife Carroll "Bobbie" Crayton Carter on January 28, 1967, at the Greater New Plymouth Rock Baptist Church. Knowing he needed eternal salvation, Pastor Carter accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized by the late Pastor George Washington on May 3, 1970. After receiving Christ, Pastor Carter faithfully served in many ministries at the church. Pastor Carter attended and graduated from Christian Bible College in Kenner, Louisiana. As time progressed, he received his Bachelor's and Master degrees in Theology. After graduation, he further his theology studies and received his Doctorate degree in theology. After that, Pastor Carter became a part of the faculty as an instructor at Christian Bible College. Always having a servant's heart, at the Greater New Plymouth Rock Baptist Church, he served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Assistant Secretary, Evangelism Leader, and Assistant to Pastor Ernest Taylor, Sr.

In God's divine time, on April 29, 1989, Pastor Carter became the Senior Pastor of the Greater New Plymouth Rock Baptist Church where he graciously and faithfully served for thirty-three years. Pastor Carter's daily mission was to reach the unsaved and unchurched with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Offering Jesus Christ to the lost and teaching God's word was his most beloved thing to do. Under Pastor Carter's leadership, many ministries were established, countless disciples were baptized, several disciples accepted their calling to preach the Gospel, children were blessed, homes were blessed, marriage counseling and ceremonies were accomplished, sick and shut-in received visits, those who were imprisoned received visits, and many more acts of kindness were demonstrated.

According to 1 Timothy 5:8, Pastor Carter knew that the word stated "But if any provide not for his own,
and especially for those of his house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel." Therefore,
for his secular career, Pastor David Carter became employed at Shell Oil Company in Norco, Louisiana on
June 6, 1966. He worked as a faithful employee as a Supervisor of Engineers and then retired after thirty
years of employment on June 6, 1996. Pastor Carter was one of a kind! He was a very loving, friendly,
humble, kind, wise man! He loved doing several things as hobbies: studying God's word, spending time
with his family; especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking breakfast for his family, gardening, taking rides and fishing with his dear friends on his boat, and watching the University at New Orleans Women's team play basketball.

Pastor Carter really loved the Lord and his lifestyle demonstrated it to the fullest. It was proven through his daily actions. He will always be remembered, and his legacy of precious memories will forever be embedded in the hearts of his wife: Carroll Crayton Carter; four children: Theron Carter, Karen Carter Victor (Chester), Keeshawn Carter Davenport (Deon, Sr.) and Kesha Carter; one brother: John B. Carter, Jr.; two sisters: Norma "Jeanie" Carter Walker and Nancy Carter; two brothers-in-law, Robert Walker and Clarence Crayton, Jr.; two sisters-in-law: Marva Lee Carter and Norma Jean Alford; one uncle-in-law: Silas William, Sr.; one aunt: Ida Gaberial; 8 grandchildren: Craig Cain, Jr., Kareniesha Victor Robertson (Thelonious), Kyrin Cain, Sr. (Jessica), Chester Victor, IV (Kara), Joshua Carter, Kariontae Victor, Deon Davenport, Jr. and Zoe Davenport; 15 great grandchildren, and 5 Godchildren: Schandra McKinney Cambre, Dontrielle Davis, Roselind Brooks Griffin, Kalisha Armstrong, and Damien Davis; 5 dear friends, Pastor Benjamin Scott, Pastor Emil Mitchell, Sr., Ervin Fleming, Faye Labiche, Chriscilda Nicholas, Marianna, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
