Dovante Demond "Slim" Mitchell Obituary (1996 - 2021)

On Sunday, July 11, 2021, Dovante heard the voice of God say "I am the resurrection and the life, those who believe in me will live even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die." Dovante "Slim" Mitchell was born on March 13, 1996 in Laplace, Louisiana to the union of Jeffery and Tonja Mitchell. Dovante was the loving and devoted companion of Janae Charles. He was the loving brother of Diamante Mitchell and Keon (Daniella) Coleman Sr. He was the uncle of British Brown and Keon Coleman Jr. Dovante was the Godfather of Amir Fernandez, Saylor Gauthier and Kynslee Shavers. Dovante graduated from West St John High School in 2015 and attended South Central Louisiana Technical College in Reserve, Louisiana briefly majoring in welding. Dovante was employed by Brown and Root Construction as a Scaffold Builder upon his graduation from high school. He was a free hearted, obedient and humble person who loved his niece, nephew, baby cousins, and family. Dovante enjoyed fishing and most of all riding his dirt bike with family and friends. Dovante leaves to cherish his memories with his parents, Jeffery and Tonja Mitchell; his siblings, Diamante Mitchell and Keon Coleman Sr.; grandparents, Adam and Debra Lumar; a devoted companion, Janae Charles, and Godparents, Gia Grows and Roy Williams. He also leaves precious memories with his Godchildren, niece, nephew, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Dovante is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, maternal and paternal great grandparents; his aunt Jeanette Pierre and uncles Leonard and Andrew Mitchell. A celebration honoring the life of Dovante "Slim" Mitchell will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Greater New St. Peter Baptist Church, 200 W 3rd St., Edgard, LA 70049. Visitation from 9am-11am. Service at 11am. Interment to follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, 2349 LA-18, Edgard, LA 70049.
