Earlene Ross Stevens

Gramercy, Louisiana

Daisy and Walter Ross Sr. were blessed with a beautiful baby girl that they named Earlene, on February 24, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Just as she gave them much joy at birth, she continued to “give” joy to others throughout her life. Being from a strong Christian home, Earlene gave her heart to Jesus Christ at an early age. She was baptized at the Greater Woodville Baptist Church by her grandfather, Pastor David Ross. Earlene was nurtured in the St. John the Baptist School system and a graduate of 2nd Ward High School.

She was united in marriage to Willie Stevens in Queens, New York. From this union the world was blessed with the birth of their Candace Stevens on July 12, 1964. In 1975, She relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada where she worked and thrived in the gaming industry until she retired. After retiring, Earlene, moved back home, to Louisiana, to be closer to family, mainly her “Sisters and Brothers.” She became a faithful member of New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church where she enjoyed attending church in-person and virtually every Sunday. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music as she often clapped and moved to the beat of her own drum, spending time with her family and she thoroughly enjoyed reading novels that she happily passed along to anyone willing to take them when she was done.

On Thursday, October 9, 2026, God called his precious child, Earlene, home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter, Sr. and Daisy Armant Ross; grandparents; Rev. David and Natalie Ross; her siblings, Mildred Hall, Uriel Ross, Geraldine White, Marie R. Johnson and Walter Ross Jr.; four brothers-in-law, John Gibson, Sr., Frederick White, Jessie Hall, Sr., Lester Jackson; one sister-in-law, Louise Ross.

Earlene has left a mark that time cannot fade and she will be cherished forever by her loving daughter. Candance Stevens; two grandchildren, Jasmine and James Hood, Jr.; her 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Scarlett and Keanu Hood; her siblings, Shirley Gibson, Barbara Jackson, Janice (Wilfred) Lumar, and Gerald Ross; in-laws, Olivia Ross, Lovenia Ross, and Edward Johnson Jr.; Godchildren, Joseph Rafiel Jr. and Kim J.
