Irma Jean Barnes (Ratliff) Obituary (1939 - 2021)

Irma Jean Ratliff Barnes was born November 20, 1939 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Grover and Halsie Ratliff. She departed from this life on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at her home surrounded by family. She was the oldest of eight children. During her teenage years, the Ratliff family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she graduated from McDonogh 35 Senior High School. Irma found Christ and was baptized at Fairview Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Buster Thornton. Throughout her life she attended many churches in the New Orleans area. Upon her departure, she was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Saint Rose, Louisiana. In the early 1960's, she met the love of her life, the Late Eddie B. Barnes Sr. Five beautiful children were born to this union and she raised Travis Overton (nephew) as a son. Irma worked as an Early Childhood Care Giver. Her hobbies included cooking & baking, solving puzzles, reading her Bible, attending church, and humanitarian acts. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and one sister. Left to cherish her memories are her children: Damita, Eddie Jr., Anita, Paula, Bryan Sr., and Trevis Overton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Ratliff Foxworth; and a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 100 2nd St., Saint Rose, LA 70087 at 10am. There will be no public viewing. Interment to follow at Restlawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3540 US-90, Avondale, LA 70094.
