A loving wife. A devoted mother. A proud grandmother. A caring sister. A supportive friend. JoAnn Washington Borne was born on May 25th, 1960 in St James, LA to the late Jesse P. Wallace and Earline Washington Davis. She was raised in Edgard, LA and would go on throughout life affectionately being called "Myrie" by those that loved and knew her best. She was baptized in the Mississippi River by the late Rev. Harper of Greater New St. Peter Baptist Church in Edgard, LA. JoAnn was the goddaughter of Sonny Johnson and the late Mary Johnson. She attended Second Ward High School in Edgard and was a very proud graduate of the Class of 1979 at West St. John High School in Edgard.\n\nJoAnn became a mother to Anika Michelle Washington in 1977. She became a wife by uniting in holy matrimony to Myron Anthony Borne on June 30, 1984 at Greater New St. Peter Baptist Church in Edgard, LA. They were married for 35 years. From this union came one daughter, Ciarra Ann Borne; and one stepson, Donriel Borne. She was a renaissance woman of sorts, working at the sugarhouse of Caire & Granuard, Inc; as a medical supply packer at Baxter; in purchasing and receiving for River Parishes Hospital; and retiring after 20 plus years of service as a cafeteria worker/manager in St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools. Each of these stops along her life would garner lifelong relationships and friendships.\n\nOn Friday, February 26, 2021, after a courageous battle with mixed connective tissue disease and lung disease, God called JoAnn to receive her just reward at 60 years old. She departed this life at Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, Tx surrounded by her daughters Anika and Ciarra. JoAnn was known for her bubbly spirit, lively personality, storytelling, wise advice, and visiting family and friends. But most of all she was known for her love for family gatherings, neighbors, and friends. Her earlier pleasures of weekend getaways, Mardi Gras festivities, and Friday night Rams games would later be replaced with the joys of becoming grandmother to Kendail, Kennedi, Kenleigh, Khloe, and Neahimaya. Another staple in her life was her Christian Faith that she was always willing to share with friends and strangers alike. She was an avid attendee to Sunday Services and Bible Study as a member of Greater Woodville Baptist Church in Wallace, Louisiana. And because she loved the word of God so much, she would fellowship with friends at their churches as well. JoAnn also enjoyed bike riding, exercising in her backyard, crossword puzzles, shopping, Hallmark Channel, cheering on her Dallas Cowboys, and getting her hair done every two weeks by her lifelong friend and hairstylist of 30 years Joseph Pearly. She will be deeply missed.\n\nJoAnn's memories will live forever in the lives of her husband, Myron Borne; daughters, Anika Washington (LaPlace, LA) and Ciarra Borne (Edgard, LA); grandson, Kendail Jarrow, Jr.; granddaughters, Kennedi and Kenleigh Jarrow, Khloe Campbell, and Neahimaya Simmons; sisters, Shirlene Wallace (New Orleans, LA) and Mabelene Washington (Edgard, LA); brothers, Jesse (Joyce) Wallace (Nashville, TN) and Adam (Wanda) Washington (LaPlace, LA); sisters-in-law, Brenda Smith (Gonzales, LA) and Marie Turner (Edgard, La.); brothers-in-law, Errol (Mary) Meadoux (Los Angeles, CA), Michael (Alicia) Borne (Belle Chase, LA), and Marlo (Debra) Borne (Reserve, LA); one aunt, Juanita Wallace (Westwego, La.); Godchildren, Lanier Fiffe, LaToya Washington, Aaliyah Bailey, and Nyri Brown; surrogate mothers, Anette Joseph, Beulah Colbert, and Francis Bovie; best friend; Tina Nathan, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.\n\nShe is preceded in death by her parents Jesse Wallace and Earline Washington Davis; grandparents Frank and Hattie Lumar Washington; Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Wallace, Sr.; mother-in-law Edith Hilaire; father-in-law Isadore Borne; brother-in-law Willie Smith; sister-in-law Cynthia Meadoux; sister Lyetta Davis; brother Raymond Washington; aunts Genetter Johnson and Bernice Wallace; uncles Merlin, Norris, Leroy and Roosevelt Washington, and Jerry Wallace, Jr.; niece and Goddaughter Sarah Ann Davis.\n\nA celebration of life honoring JoAnn "Myrie" Borne will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at New St. Peter Baptist Church, 200 W 3rd St, Edgard, LA 70049.
