John "Pappy" Lucas Sr. Obituary (1939 - 2018)

On Sunday, June 17, 2018, John "Pappy" Lucas, Sr. departed his earthly life and entered into his heavenly home. He was born to the late AnneBelle Champagne and Willie Lucas on January 14, 1939 on Bessie K Plantation, where he was raised. He was joined in holy matrimony to the late Clementine Weber Lucas and to this union 5 children were born: John Jr., Delacy, Jynell, Andreaneice, & the late Ashley Lucas. He also fathered 5 additional children; Karen Johnson, Andrew Brooks, Kevin, Keith, & Kenneth Simoneaux. He had 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; 5 sisters; Mary Lee Nelson, Augustine Rome, Brenda Champagne, the late Stephanie Joseph and the late Gloria Narcisse; 5 brothers, Lawrence Champagne, Sr., Calvin Champagne, the late Godfrey Moody, Sr., the late Herman Bright, Sr., and the late Augustine Celestine; 1 godchild; Leandra Priestley. He was a retiree of St. James Parish Council, where he had worked for 26 years. He leaves a host of family and friends to cherish his memories. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5pm-7pm at Treasures of Life Funeral Services, 315 E. Airline Hwy, Gramercy, LA. 70052. A Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 23, 2018 for 11:00am from St. James Catholic Church, 6613 Highway 18, St James, LA. Father Matthew McCaughey, Celebrant. Interment church cemetery.
