Lorreta Woodfork (Jones) Obituary (1940 - 2023)

"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live." Lorreta Woodfork was born Lorreta Jones on October 1, 1940, in Edgard, Louisiana to the late Junius Jones Sr. and the late Cinderella Becnel Jones. She is the sister of the late Louella Batiste, the late Georginanna Allen, the late Selina J. Borne and Junius Jones Jr. At an early age, Lorreta secured her eternity with the Lord by accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was baptized by the late Rev. C.A. Washington at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Edgard, LA. Loretta received her education in public schools of St. John the Baptist Parish, Edgard, LA. She was a graduate of Second Ward High School Class of 1958. Loretta also attended Delgado Community College. Loretta was united in holy matrimony to Erica Woodfork on December 24, 1960. From their union, four children were born - Jeanell, Jeffrey, Novall and Novarrell. She was "Ma" & "Grandma" to grandchildren Gavin Spurlock, Gaylyn Spurlock, Genarra Woodfork, Erica Woodfork, Na'Varrell Woodfork, Edward Proctor and Jaron Chest. Loretta also has 8 Great-Grandchildren. Godchildren Roland Borne, Jr., Paula Williams, Archie Irons and Kameron Gullage. Loretta worked for many years at West Jefferson Hospital as a CNA. She had a passion for sewing and clothing designs which she displayed at her TG&Y's job in the fabric department. She also worked at the Jefferson Parish Head Start where she enjoyed and fulfilled her greatest passion as a cook. She retired later from The Jefferson Parish Head Start. The idea contained in the expression, "all good things must come to an end, it is with Loretta's life journey. On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, an angel of the Lord escorted her from her earthly home into her eternal home as promised by Jesus Christ."In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:2-3 Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Junius Sr. and Cinderella Becnel Jones, sisters, the late Louella Batiste, the late Georginanna Allen, and the late Selina J. Borne. The love and laughter shared with every fiber of Lorreta's being is forever embedded in the hearts of those who cherish her memories; her devoted husband, Erica Woodfork; children, Jeanell Woodfork Green (Harry), JefferyWoodfork, Novall Woodfork Coleman and Novarrell Woodfork; grandchildren, Gavin Spurlock, Gaylyn Spurlock, Gennara Woodfork, Erica Woodfork, Na'Varrell Woodfork, Edward Proctor, and Jaron Chest. Eight Great-Grandchildren. 1 brother, Junius Jones Jr.; 1 sister-in-law, Erma Antonio, and a wealth of relatives, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Family and friends are invited to the Celebration of Life held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church located 1000 Walkertown Way, Marrero, Louisiana 70072. Visitation will begin at 8 am with services starting at 10 am. Interment will be at Restlawn Park Cemetery 3540 US-90 Avondale, Louisiana 70094.
