She was born May 12, 1944, to the late Mildred Brooks Martin at Charity Hospital, in New Orleans. Lula accepted Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. In her later years, she relocated to Laplace and finally Darrow, LA. She worked for many years in the hospitality industry as a housekeeping supervisor. She spent many years at La Pavillion and Monteleone Hotels finally retiring from Travelodge. She was a hardworking professional woman.\nShe enjoyed cooking but when she wanted the day off, she'd enjoy her favorite, Church's Chicken, with the skin off. Lula was a loving and caring mother of five children, sixteen grandchildren, and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. \n\nLula leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Joyce Ann Jasmine(Gil), Dessrere Ford and Ramona Brooks-Hall(Jermaine Sr.); one son, Adonis Keith Brooks(Alisia); sixteen grandchildren, John Ford, Tenisha Richardson(Terrell), Devona Ford(Nick), George Hampton IV, Alvanisha Ford, Richard Boyles, Bernard Brooks(Ashley), Yathseba Ford(Tony), Kaysha Williams(Gio'Vonta), Louis Ford(Elenora), Kennisha Brooks(Kayla), Terriona Ford(Diamond), Terry Ford, Jermaine Hall Jr(Jada), Jermond Hall, and Terron Ford; twenty-nine great grandchildren; her dearest friend, Verga Fortenberry; one brother, Joseph Martin Jr.(Penelope); one sister Gloria Brooks Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.\n\nLula was proceeded in death by her mother, Mildred Brooks Martin; one daughter, Wanda Marie Ford; and one sister, Annabell Brooks Matthews.\n\nA celebration of life honoring Lula Mae Ford will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2023, at Choice International, 516 E. Airline Hwy, Laplace, LA 70068 at 11 am. Visitation begins at 10 am. Interment to follow at Providence Memorial Park & Mausoleum, 8200 Airline Dr, Metairie, LA 70003.
