Mary Nell Maze (Kelly) Obituary (1950 - 2020)

A gentle and loving soul departed this earth on April 24, 2020 as Mary Nell Kelly Maze ascended to heaven. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother leaving behind her loyal husband, John L. Maze, Sr.; her daughter Shantell K. Phelps (Robert); her son, John L. Maze, Jr.; and two granddaughters, Kennedy and Kylie Phelps. A graduate of Second Ward High School in Edgard, Mary Nell studied at Southern University in Baton Rouge before marrying John. She moved to Byron Center, Michigan where she resided at the time of her death. Her radiant smile will live on in the memories of all who knew and loved her. Mary Nell was the daughter of the late Mr. Alvin Kelley, Sr and Mrs. Ernestine Johnson Kelley. She grew up in the town of Edgard, Louisiana where she was raised along with her five siblings. Her sisters, Vernadine K. Oubre; Dora K. Edwards (Ray, Sr.) and Romona K. Lewis are left behind to mourn her passing along with her sisters-in-law: Romona A. Kelley, Gloria Maze and Geraldine Maze; and, brothers-in-law: Cleveland Maze and Herman Maze. Mary Nell was preceded in death by her sister, Cathy K. Morris; her brother, Alvin Kelly, Jr.; her brothers-in-law: Oliver J. Oubre, Michael Lewis, Sr and Silas James Maze, Jr.; and her nieces: Youcha Marie and Olivia M. Oubre.
