Mathilde Eva Smith (Savoie) Obituary (1924 - 2021)

Mathilde Savoie Smith passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the age of 97. She was a native of Edgard, LA and a New Orleanian for almost 80 years. She was a devout Catholic and the oldest member at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in New Orleans, where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for over 30 years. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Smith and daughter of the late Joseph Blaine Savoie Sr. and the late Beaulah Borne Savoie. Mathilde leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Ellis Smith and Lawrence Smith, Jr. (Monica) and two daughters Catherine Smith Lewis (Isaac) and Julie Smith Price (the late Keith Price), 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Sister of Charles (Jeannette) Savoie, and Jerry (Ernestine) Savoie. She was preceded in death by brothers: McKinley Savoie (Ethel), Joseph Blaine Savoie Jr. (Lorita), and sisters: Alma Johnson (Bartholomew), Lucretia Briscoe (Harold), Carolyn Grant (Alfred), and Ernestine August (Emile). Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 3501 N. Miro St., New Orleans, LA 70117 on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Preceding the Mass is the holy rosary at 8:30 a.m. and viewing from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, 2361 Hwy. 18, Edgard, LA 70049.
