Matthew Charles Obituary (1937 - 2017)

"Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, let me stand, I'm tired, I'm weak, I'm worn. Through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light; Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home." On Monday, April 17, 2017 at Country Villa Nursing and Rehab Center in Los Angeles, California, Brother Matthew "Matt" Charles departed this life to live eternal life with his heavenly Father. Matthew Charles was born on August 25, 1937, to the union of the late Edward Charles, Sr. and Eva Davis Charles. He leaves three children, Morlin Charles, Nikita M. Whitten and Nicole Wilson; one step daughter Zennel Ussin. Family remembers Matt as a self-employed mechanic for years in New Orleans, Louisiana. He later moved to California. Along with his surviving children he leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved sisters; Eloria Charles Martin, Deloris Charles, and Julia Adams (Jerome); one brother, Alvin Charles; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; godchild, Vickie Everitt Joseph, along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Brother Matthew Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eva Charles, Sr.; seven brothers, Issac, Isseal, Jacob, Romalis, Ivory, Edward and Morris and two sisters, Gustavia and Geneva. A funeral celebration will be held on Saturday April 29, 2017 at 11:00am from the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 8103 Mt. Calvary St., St. James, La., Rev. Sam Jones officiating.
