Oscar “Mickey/Big Mickey” Stewart Sr.

–

Vacherie, Louisiana

Oscar Stewart Sr., affectionately known as “Mickey” and “Big Mickey,” was born on October 21, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Alex Stewart and Adeline Monget Stewart Walters. He was lovingly reared and cherished by Clarence Walters Sr., as his very own son. On the morning of May 7, 2026, at the age of 78, Oscar transitioned peacefully into eternal rest.

Oscar accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a dedicated member of the food pantry committee. He later became a member of New Horizon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Rapp Sr.

Oscar dedicated more than 20 years of service to both Avondale Shipyard and St. James Parish School Board respectively. During his later career as a bus driver, he was known as a stern but caring bus driver who earned the respect of his riders who called him “Mr. Mickey”. Between his morning and afternoon routes and often long after the day ended into the night, Oscar could be found outside listening to music while repairing and rebuilding vehicles. He took tremendous pride in his work, and the finish product always reflected his dedication and craftsmanship.

He leaves his precious memories to cherish to his four grandchildren, Joshua Stewart, Jordan Nevis, Jared Nevis and Jada Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Jaylen Mitchell and Jayden Frank; two siblings, Hamilton Walters and Faye Walters Gordon; Felton Nora Sr. whom he loved and reared as his own and his children Zane, Makayla, Maleeya, Zara, Makai, Alani, Amira and Felton Nora Jr., La’Sean Wade and La’Riya Stephens who called him Paw-Paw; one sister in law, Linda G.
