Paulette "P" Cobb (Alexander) Obituary (1944 - 2022)

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the angels gathered and called Paulette A. Cobb, 77, home after a lengthy battle with cancer. The former wife of the late, Robert Cobb. A native of Edgard, LA was born to the union of Lawrence and Rose Borne Alexander on Christmas day, December 25, 1944, in New Orleans, LA. She grew up in Edgard, LA and attended elementary school until her family relocated to Marrero, LA. She graduated from Lincoln High School of Marrero, LA and was a star Trojanette (high school dance-team member). Paulette loved dancing and singing. She often spoke about her dream of moving to California to sing back up for various celebrities in the music industry. Instead, she remained home and attended Straight Business College. She worked various jobs in the business and medical field directly after completing high school. During her early-twenties, Paulette met and married Robert Cobb. Paulette and Robert lived in Philadelphia, PA for a short while. She shared many stories of living in Philly and often traveling to New York, New Jersey, and other surrounding states on the East Coast. After becoming pregnant she and Robert decided to move back to Louisiana and she gave birth to her only daughter, DeShanon Marie Cobb. Robert and Paulette adored their baby girl, she was the love of their lives. Once her baby girl became of school age, Paulette decided to complete her studies at Southern University at New Orleans and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education. She worked at several schools within Jefferson Parish School System, LTI and Hope Haven. She later went on to work for Jefferson Parish Community Action Programs (JEFFCAP) as a Teacher Advisor for the Head Start program, retiring from JEFFCAP after 15 plus years. Paulette has always embraced her Catholic faith. A lifelong member of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Marrero, LA, she served on the Children's Liturgy Ministry. Weekend fun times were often spent with her devoted sisters playing cards and dominos. A sisterly bond that will never die. Being the 7th child of 14 siblings was special to her. For a huge part of her life, and post retirement she cared for her brother Brad and as her mother's health declined, she cared for her (Mum) along with her siblings. Having her only daughter, was always very special for her. Her heart truly belonged to her daughter, DeShanon, "Shannon" and her grandson, Devin, who she called, "her little man". Paulette, born on Christmas Day was the most celebrated day for the family. It was the BIG day the Alexander family always celebrated. Family members far and near gathered and enjoyed one another's company. She entertained everyone with her signature song "I went to Pinkerville" on her special day. Memories we will always cherish. She is preceded in death by her parents, the late Lawrence and Rose Borne Alexander, her former husband, Robert Cobb. Her brothers, Ronald, Lawrence Jr and Brad Alexander. Sisters, Emma Lou Watson, Yvette Marie and Jane Doris Alexander. Sister-in-law, Mary Alice Patrick and Brothers - in- law, Harold Watson and Alvin Harris. Paulette leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted daughter: DeShanon Cobb Russell; beloved grandson: Devin Russell; five sisters: Evelyn" Betsy" Jackson, Yvonne Minor Webber (Oscar), Stacey A. Harris, Diane A. Keller (David) and Monica A. Laselle (Hilton Jr); four brothers: Nashid A. Salahuddin (Irene), Carter (Nellie), Tyrone (LouAnna) and Ray Alexander; sister-in-law: Lisa Mae Alexander; one Goddaughter: Megan Michelle Acklin; Godson/nephew: Jovan Patrick; and a host of loving and devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A public viewing will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Treasures of Life Funeral Services, 315 E. Airline Hwy., Gramercy, LA 70052 from 4:30pm-6pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 455 Ames Blvd, LA 70072. Visitation will be held from 8am-10am. Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8:45 am, Tribute of Life 9:15 am. Mass will begin at 10am.
