Robert Kenneth (Big George) Harris, age 71, transitioned peacefully from this life on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at his home. He was born on October 10, 1949 to the union of Robert and Ruth Howard Harris. He was a native of Vacherie, LA and a resident of Westwego/Marrero, LA. He was reared by his maternal grandparents Ernest and Nettie Lewis Howard. \n\nRobert was a 1968 graduate of St. James High School. He went on to further his education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, where he graduated with a degree in Business in 1972. Upon graduating, he was employed by K-Mart in Ohio as a manager. After the passing of his mother in 1978, he returned home to manage the family's business Marrero Daycare Center. Under his direction, the business name changed to Childhood Development Center, and it continued to thrive until its closing in 2002. After acquiring certifications in air-conditioning and refrigeration, as well as real-estate, Robert later went on to become an entrepreneur. \n\nHe was baptized by the late Rev. Freddie H. Dunn at the New Home Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful servant until his passing. Robert was a true sportsman, one who loved hunting.\n\n Robert leaves to cherish his memories and loving moments his beloved wife Sheila Jones Harris, loving children Lareclial Harris, Elgin Harris (Angela Davis), Robert Harris, Francois Carter, and Reginald Rogers, loving stepchildren Marvin Jones, Jr., Ki'Andra Jones and Demond Jones, Sr., grandchildren Elgin, Jr., Aurelio, En'Jelle, Arbriana, Sterlin, Robert IV, aryl, Christian, Kiran, Kiirstyn, Demond Jr., Nicholas and De'Juan, , siblings Ava Zeno, Elaine Coleman, Lorraine (Daniel) Atkins and Keith Harris, Godmother Ms. Ethel Howard, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.\n\nHe was preceded in death by his son Ernest Harris, his parents, his grandparents and one sister Gaynel Clark.\n\nRelatives and friends of the family, as well as pastors, officers and members of Highway Baptist Church of Vacherie, LA, Second Zion Baptist Church of Marrero, LA, Mt. Calvary International Worship Center of New Orleans, LA, Mt. Herman of Avondale, LA and all neighboring churches are invited to attend a celebration of life on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at New Hope Baptist Church 1807 Rev. John C Raphael Jr. Way New Orleans, LA 70113. Visitation will begin at 9am. Service to immediately follow from 10am -11am. Interment to follow at Highway Baptist Church Cemetery in Vacherie, LA.
