Revelations 21:4\n\nBro. Roland "Rookie" Broden Sr. was born to the union of the late Walter and Viola C. Broden on April 23, 1947. On the morning of January 30, 2022, he heard his Master's voice saying, "My good and faithful servant, your work on earth is done, come take your rest." He was baptized at an early age by Rev. J.E. Thompson at St. Paul Baptist Church. He later moved his member to First Baptist Church of Vacherie, L A under the leadership of the late Rev. Lucien R. Garret and Pastor Johnnie B. Magee, where he served as a faithful Deacon until his death.\n\nRoland married Diane T. Broden on January 6, 2006. To their union they reared 1 son, Tykeith "Spud" Coleman; 1 stepson, Albert Lewis; and 1 grandchild.\n\nRookie worked for Brand Scaffolding for over 30 years before retiring. In addition, he was an employee of St. James Parish Government's Department of Human Resources in the Transit Department for 5 years.\n\nLeft to cherish his wonderful memories are his 8 children, Roland Broden, Jr. (Chequita), Sean Broden (Beverly), Don Broden, Jemal Broden, Albert Lewis, Tykeith Coleman, Ciji Lafargue, and Shantel Greenup; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary B. Greenup and Mary L. Nelson; 2 brothers, Albert Broden, Sr. (Patricia) and Warren Broden, Sr. (Angela); 4 sisters-in-law, Barbara Thomas, Rosa Lee, Cora and Evelina Lewis; 1 brother-in-law, Frank Thomas (Monique); mother-in-law, Dorothy Lewis; Godchild, Wayne Greenup; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.\n\nHe was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Viola C. Broden; 3 brothers, Michael "Picky" Broden, Sr., Jerry Broden, Sr., and Thomas "Sugarman" Broden, Sr.; 3 sisters, Jeanette "Deany" Broden, Geraldine "Lou" Keller, and Edna "Sister" Isaac; daughter, Francis Broden; and 2 brothers-in-law, Gaylord and Eddie Lewis.\n\nA celebration of life honoring Roland "Rookie" Broden, Sr. will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 1244 Magnolia Heights St., Vacherie, LA 70090. Visitation from 9am-11am. Service will begin at 11am. Interment to follow at St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery in Moonshine (Saint James), LA.
