Rudolph Solomon “D.O.” Sorapuru
May 24, 1953 – October 19, 2026
“Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
1 John 4:7–8
With hearts filled with love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life and legacy of Rudolph Solomon “D.O.” Sorapuru, who answered the call of our Lord and Savior on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the age of 73. Although his earthly journey has come to an end, the love he shared, the memories he created, and the lives he touched will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Rudolph was born on May 24, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Rudolph Solomon Sorapuru, Sr. and Joyce Becnel Sorapuru. He was educated in the St. John the Baptist Parish School System, where he established roots in the community that would remain an important part of his life. He was a 1971 graduate of Edgard High School.
D.O. proudly served the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office for nearly 30 years, retiring with the distinguished rank of Sergeant. Throughout his many years of dedicated service, he demonstrated commitment to his profession and the community he served. As a respected member of the Sheriff’s Office, he developed lasting relationships with his fellow officers, coworkers, and members of the community. His dedication, years of service, and the friendships he formed throughout his law enforcement career will forever remain a meaningful part of his legacy.
On February 14, 1994, Valentine’s Day, Rudolph was united in holy matrimony with Tammy Borne Sorapuru. Their union was a testament to love, commitment, and perseverance. Through life’s joys, challenges, and everything in between, D.O. remained devoted to his wife, standing faithfully by her side no matter what. His unwavering love and dedication to Tammy reflected the true meaning of the vows they shared. Together, they built a life filled with family, treasured memories, and a bond that will forever remain in her heart.
D.O. was the proud father of four children: Jamiah Sorapuru, Sr., Dustin Sorapuru, Sr., Lacey Bailey, and the late Tessa Nicholas.
Affectionately known as “D.O.” to family and friends, Rudolph was a man who truly enjoyed life and found happiness in the simple pleasures. He had a special passion for football and was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers. D.O. also enjoyed playing cards, sharing good times, and enjoying the company of family and friends. Whether cheering on his favorite football team, sitting around a card table, or simply spending time with those he loved, D.O. appreciated life’s special moments.
One of D.O.’s greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. He was always ready to play, laugh, and share special moments with them. No matter the occasion, he enjoyed being involved in their fun. His playful spirit and the happiness he found in being a grandfather created precious memories that his grandchildren will carry in their hearts forever.
And, of course, anyone who knew D.O. will always remember his famous question, “You washed your hands?” It didn’t matter where you were, what you were doing, or what time of day it was—D.O. was going to ask, “You washed your hands?” It was simply his way, one of those little things that made him uniquely D.O. What once brought laughter and perhaps a playful response will now become one of the sweetest memories his loved ones will treasure. Though his voice may no longer be heard, those familiar words will forever echo in the hearts of his family, bringing smiles through the tears.
D.O. did not need grand gestures to leave a lasting impression. His love was reflected in his devotion to his wife, the joy he shared with his grandchildren, his love for family, and the familiar words that will forever be remembered. His presence, personality, and the countless memories he leaves behind will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cherishing His Precious Memories
Rudolph leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Tammy Borne Sorapuru; his sister, Tanya Haydel; his children, Jamiah Sorapuru, Sr., Dustin (Adrian) Sorapuru, Sr., and Lacey Bailey; and his beloved grandchildren, Jaxson Sorapuru, Jamiah Sorapuru, Jr., Aria Sorapuru, Ava Sorapuru, Da’Kalen Lewis, Breshard Wilson, Dustin Sorapuru, Jr., Kaedyn Bailey, Skylar Bailey, JaJuan Nicholas, and Jalen Nicholas.
He also leaves his cherished goddaughter, Toni Lynn Songy-Lockett, and beloved godson, Jordae Gautier and his devoted friends, Chyrall August and Jimmy Rainey, whose friendship, loyalty, and cherished memories will forever remain a special part of his legacy.
He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers-in-law, Leroy (Cynthia) Foster, Bruce Borne, Lawrence (Myra) Borne, Jr., Tony (Druhetta) Borne, Brian Borne, and Desmond (Dionne) Borne, Sr.; his sisters-in-law, Rona Wiltz, Shelia Morris, Joyce Thomas, Denise Mason, Donita Bell, Dyuanne (Shawn) Trench, and Laduanne Gautier; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
Welcoming Him Into Eternal Rest
Rudolph was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Rudolph Solomon Sorapuru, Sr. and Joyce Becnel Sorapuru; his grandparents, Louis and Helen Sorapuru and Elenora Biagus; his cherished daughter, Tessa Nicholas; his uncle, Russell Sorapuru Sr., his aunt, Theresa Sorapuru; his mother-in-law, Jerry Dean Borne;his sister-in-law, LaVerne Jack; brothers-in-law, Russell Jack, Sr., Carlos Morris, and Clinton Wiltz as well as his nephew-in-law, Izel Dee.
Although our hearts are saddened by his passing, we find comfort in God’s promise of eternal life. D.O.’s earthly journey has ended, but his story continues through the love of his family, the laughter of his grandchildren, the friendships he formed, and the precious memories he leaves behind.
We will miss his presence, his laughter, his love, and even that familiar question, “You washed your hands?” But most of all, we will miss the man who made ordinary moments extraordinary.
His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and his love a gift that will remain in our hearts forever.
