Shenard "Shakey" Matthews

Shenard “Shakey” Matthews entered into his eternal life on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the age of 56, at St. James Parish Hospital. Shenard was born on March 30, 1969 to Senoria Matthews and the late Louis Matthews Sr.

Shenard gave his life to Christ at a young age at King David Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Rev Herbert Gordon. He graduated from Lutcher High School in 1989. That is when he grew his love for basketball. He coached little league and was deeply committed to the youth and his community. If he wasn’t out and about with his spontaneous personality, you could find him showing off his different style of clothes because fashion was his thing.

He was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church. Shenard held employment at the Juvenile Detention center as a Sergeant, Colonial Sugar and Mosaic. He was a breath of fresh air to everyone he encountered. The love he had for his friends and family exceeded anything you can put into words. His constant jokes and sense of humor is what kept everyone thriving.

Shenard will deeply be missed by his mother, Senoria Matthews, Children, Kisharra Williams, Javen Williams, Tyler Briley, Jiah Young, Jirah Young, Jakayla Landry.

Grandchildren, Ereone Gray, Javen Williams Jr., Keelei Williams, Ja’leah Young, Demi Young, Demir Young, Harm’oni Jackson, Twin sister, Shenell Matthews, Siblings, Durwin Gaines, Ray Matthews(Valencia), Daphane Brooks, Rhondra Jackson, Hilda Joseph, Wanda Joseph, Michael Paul, Melba Joseph, Spencer Joseph, Sydney Joseph, Mitchell Joseph and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, God children, and friends.

He was preceeded in death by Louis Matthews Sr.(Father), Irma Jean Gordon (sister), Louis Matthews Jr. (brother), Mark Matthews, (brother), Sabrina Matthews, (sister), Samuel Joseph Jr. (brother), Stella Louise Joseph (sister),Junious Gaines(grandfather), Irma Gaines(grandmother).

Shakey’s sense of humor, joyful spirit, and loving heart will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live forever in our hearts. In the words of Shakey “You have my deepest sympathy”

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Treasures of Life Funeral Services, 315 E. Airline Hwy., Gramercy, LA 70052 on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 4-6pm. Shakey's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at New Zion Christian Center, 216 W. Main Street, Gramercy, LA 70052. Visitation from 8-10am followed by the service for 10am; burial will be private.
